Our hand-made chasen is a 120 pronged whisk, carefully split from a single bamboo stalk. This higher number of prongs was specifically chosen for its ability to dissolve and texture matcha with more ease and fluidity. To make chasen with such numerous prongs requires greater skill, care and patience by the craftsmen.

Care and maintenance:

  • First, cure the whisk by running warm water over it and allowing the prongs to unfurl from the centre.-After each use, rinse thoroughly with warm water and allow excess water to drain downwards (away from the handle).
  • Over time, when the prongs soften too much and no longer holds firm, it is time to replace your chasen.
