In search for a suitable replacement for our Assam orthodox leaf while shipping lines in India continue to struggle, we were lucky to find this purpose fit Ceylonese combination.
Compared to our traditional Assam, the Naeta Aesam (“Not Assam” in Sinhala) has a slightly longer and thinner leaf. And being a Ceylon origin, the brew is brighter and gives more hazelnut than chocolate. Assam lovers would be pleased to know the Naeta Aesaem has the same level of intensity or depth of flavour and thus, no change in our brewing parameters.
Indeed, every cloud has a silver lining.
Dry leaves: medium length, brown, twisted
Liquor: amber colour
Taste: hazelnut, malt, muscatel
Process: fully oxidised
